Cluster Dream Square

I wanted to create a granny square that didn’t resemble a typical granny square. I wanted a square that would show that you could take a circle and turn it into a square that could be attached to a normal square.

To me this square looks like dreams come to you in clusters. Each cluster is a new dream that circle around the center. That may just be me daydreaming but that is what I see.
Though this square may look complicated but it is quite simple to make. As long as you can make a double crochet and slip stitch you will be able to make this square.

materials:

• Worsted Weight yarn
• Crochet Hook size G or H
• Scissors
• Stitch marker (4)
• Blunt needle

Pattern:

R1: make a magic circle. Chain 2, make 15 DC inside the magic circle. join with a sl st to the top of the beginning chain. You should have a total of 16 dc in your magic circle.


R2: Ch 2, work half cluster, ch 1, in the same dc as the ch 2. in the next dc and each dc around, work a cluster stitch, ch 1, around until you reach the beginning chain. Join in the top of the first half cluster.  You should have a total of 16 cluster stitch.


R3: ch 2, work a half cluster, ch 2, in the chain 1 space , in the next chain 1 space and each chain 1 space around, work a cluster stitch, Ch 2, around until you reach the beginning chain. You should have a total 16 cluster stitches.


R4: ch3, in the same space work; 2 trc, ch 1, 3 trc. *In the next ch 1 space work; 3 dc . In next ch 1 space work; 3 hdc . In the next ch 1 space work; 3dc. In the next ch 1 space work; 3trc, ch 1, 3 trc. Repeat from * around ending with the second 3dc.


Finish off & weave in the ends.

Special Stitches

Half Cluster Stitch

Wrap hook once, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (should have 3 loops on our hook), grab the yarn & pull through 2 loops (should have 2 loops on your hook), wrap your around hook, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over & pull up a loop (should have 4 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops, (should have 3 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on your hook.

Cluster Stitch

Wrap hook once, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (should have 3 loops on our hook), grab the yarn & pull through 2 loops (should have 2 loops on your hook), wrap your around hook, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over & pull up a loop (should have 4 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops, (should have 3 loops on your hook), yarn over insert hook into same stitch, you over and pull up a loop (should have 5 loops on your hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops, you over and pull through the remaining 4 loops.

How many?

You only need to make two of these squares. As always it is your choice on color placement or number of colors. I can not wait to see your creations!
